Aside from Calaguas and Mayon Volcano, Caramoan is another scenic spot to visit in the Bicol Region of the Philippines. Enjoy island hopping, appreciate marine life by snorkelling, challenge yourself by climbing rock cliffs, and be astonished by a Batanes-view-liked island.

Commuter guide to Caramoan

There are numerous ways to consider, just decide which is the most convenient for you.

Option 1: Bus-Van-Boat

This is our DIY commute guide since we did not reach the minimum number of pax to acquire a private van. And I want to emphasize that we do not have any idea about this route during our travel, we just learned this as we go, thanks to our helpful travel guide.

1.1 Manila to Naga via Amihan Bus

Go to Amihan Bus terminal which is located in Times Square Ave, Cubao, Quezon City, Metro Manila(near AliMall). Fare is 680php($13.03) for this air-conditioned bus. They have four daily scheduled trips: AM(6:30/8:30) and PM(12:30/9:00). Travel time is about 9 to 10 hours, quite long, but I am telling you it’s all worth it. If I may suggest, take the night trip just like we did so you still have time to take a nap and regain your energy.

1.2 Naga Terminal to Van Terminal via Tricycle

More or less 15 minute ride for 50php($1) covering 4 pax. Don’t hesitate to negotiate. The van terminal is located at the back of SM City Naga.

1.3 Naga to Sabang Port via Van

Travel time will depend on how fast the van will be filled with passengers, ours took 1 and 1/2 hours to reach the port. Prepare 150php($3) fare.

1.4 Sabang Port to Guijalo Port(Caramoan) via Boat

Trip schedules of public boats are from 6 am to 11 am, the fare is 120php($2.3). Travel time is about 2 hours. Be conscious with the schedule, you might not want to spend more by renting a private boat. Upon reaching the port, pay 30php($0.60)per person Environmental Fee at the structure with a sign Caramoan Feeder Port.

1.5 Guijalo Port(Caramoan) to Caramoan Town

A 15 to 30 minutes tricycle ride to Caramoan Town. Prepare 10php($0.2) to 15php($0.3) for the fare but on our case, we did not pay any since it is included in the travel package that we acquire. On the town proper, you can find most of the hostels, lodges, and guesthouses you may prefer.

Option 2: Airplane-Van-Boat

We are planning to get this option for our next trip to Caramoan. Woah, less hassle!

2.1 Manila to Naga via Air

Depart from Manila to Naga via Philippine Airlines or Cebu Pacific, better book a roundtrip fare for it is much cheaper. Travel time will be approximately 1 hour and 5 minutes.

2.2 Airport to Van Terminal via Taxi/Van/Bus

Ride a taxi or van off to the van terminal near SM City Naga. You can also opt to walk outside the airport and ride a public bus off to SM City Naga.

2.3 Van Terminal to Sabang Port via Van

Take the van that will take you to Sabang Port. The fare is 150php($3) and duration of travel is 1 and 1/2 hours.

2.4 Sabang Port to Guijalo Port(Caramoan) via Boat

Trip schedules of public boats are from 6 am to 11 am, the fare is 120php($2.3). Travel time is about 2 hours. Be conscious with the schedule, you might not want to spend more by renting a private boat. Upon reaching the port, pay 30php($0.60)per person Environmental Fee at the structure with a sign Caramoan Feeder Port.

Option 3: Airplane-Boat

This is an alternative not known by many. Your welcome!

3.1 Manila to Virac, Catanduanes via Air

Depart from Manila to Virac, Catanduanes via Philippine Airlines or Cebu Pacific.

3.2 Virac Airport to Codon Port via Tricycle

From Virac Airport, ride a tricycle to Codon port. It will consume about 1 hour travel time and the one-way fare is 300php($6) good for 4 pax.

3.3 Codon Port to Caramoan via Boat

From Codon port, hire a fisherman’s boat to Caramoan, they are usually residing near the port. You will reach Caramoan island after a 30-40 minute travel period depending on the weather and which island you want to visit.

There may be other ways which are far from my knowledge thus, will keep this page updated for any new routes I will learn.

Do you want to know what to expect and what to see on the island? Take a glimpse here.

Tara na sa Pilipinas, tara na sa Caramoan!
